Holy crap!!! What a video!

There's a field very close to my house that is part of my subdivision that still gets crop dusted from time to time by a yellow biplane. The pilot has brass balls and comes EXTREMELY close to the bordering highway in his dives. I'd hate to think that he'd have a similar landing someday.

Grew up next to sugar cane fields in the rio grande valley. Loved whenever a crop duster came around. It was like a free air show. Also fun when harvesting time came around and they burned the fields. It would be raining bits of ash outside during recess.

That was just a couple miles away from my mom's house. Also, nice move filming while driving. At least it wasn't vertical video.

Glad all are safe but the landing was botched. He had plenty of grass, and I can't for the life of me figure out how he ended up under that overpass. It looks from the short clip like he came in too fast.

Start working at home with Google! It's by-far the best job I've had. Last Wednesday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for $6474 this - 4 weeks past. I began this 8-months ago and immediately was bringing home at least $77 per hour. I work through this link, go to tech tab for work detail

Here is the thing about losing your engine, you don't have the option to say "hey, I'll do a go-around and give this approach another shot". Banner flying planes are usually flying pretty close to the ground, their options for landing are quite low. You pick a spot, you pick it fast, and you get one chance.

last pay check was $9500 working 12 hours a week online. My neighbour's sister has been averaging 15k for months now and she works about 20 hours a week. I can't believe how easy it was once I tried it out.

It's really deceptive to look at but that grass isn't all smooth field, it's actually very hilly and there's a big drainage ditch running through it as well as trees.

This is actually the same freeway intersection area where I got stuck in traffic once because a horse ran onto the freeway and got clipped by a car and was just standing there in the middle of the road injured. I was about 4 cars back from the horse because traffic was getting through on one lane but then the horse started freaking out so they stopped traffic all together. Here's a picture.

I can't understand the high number of off-airport landings these days where pilots are trying to land on or right next to roads. WTF? Every time we did emergency drills when I was working on my PPL my instructors constantly harped on me about, "Never land on roads. Its OK if you kill your own dumbass but not some poor slob who is just driving to work." Seriously though, if you are a pilot and have an emergency avoid the f*king road.

Landing on a road in an emergency is perfectly legal, and there's really no reason not to do it. If this pilot had been able to find a long straight stretch of road to land on instead of bumpy hilly grass it is quite likely there would have been no damage to either the plane or any other vehicles. The choice isn't kill yourself or someone else, the choice is to kill yourself or land without harming anyone.

Yeah, when I was doing some flight training my instructor said roads were the last options, behind fields, riverbanks, beach, etc. Roads present a lot of hazards like light poles, power lines, and of course people and cars. Still, a road is a better option that a forest.

I never told students to avoid roads. There are hazards to a landing on a road or off. A pilot SHOULD be taught to manage those hazards. I know that it is generally out of style to be 'responsible' and make a 'decision' these days, but in aviation it is not only expected but required. If your instructor taught you to limit options in an emergency, instead of how to judge the options and associated hazards, you received very poor instruction.

Yes, agreed. But once you know you will make your chosen landing area, control your speed. That airplane will slip and bleed speed while coming down. Then you won't go galloping and skipping across the grass. And yes, I have experienced an engine out dead-stick myself.

If I have an engine out and have a highway close by, you can bet your ass I'm gonna use it as a runway... However this is a cropduster who fly very low as an occupational hazard so my guess is that he didn't have the time or luxury to pick his place to land!

Land on a road if you can do it safely. A road will be smooth and hard. Landing in the grass, who knows what is in there. Could be soft mud that flips you over, could be large rocks that tear your plane to bits. Both could end with serious injury or death.
